Virgin Media is investigating the potential opportunity to install Fibre To The Home (FTTH) cables in King’s Somborne as part of a major upgrade to villages across central Test Valley.
Many residents already have BT’s ‘superfast broadband’ however, it is widely recognised that the copper wire service is limited.
FTTH provides potentially limitless speeds and is future-proof. You may be happy with your current speed, but within 5 years this service will no longer be able to keep up with the required data usage.
Broadband is now one of the utilities that must be listed when selling a house and poor speeds may decrease the value of homes. Having the option of a Fibre To The Home connection will be advantageous to anyone wishing to sell their home in the future.
This would represent a major investment in Parish infrastructure and will be available for both current residents and the next generation. It is likely to be far too expensive to do this again in the future, so it may be decades before the service is offered again. We do not want King’s Somborne to be left behind while other villages in Test Valley are using 21st century utilities.
